BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — In a bold step towards bridging the digital divide, the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya, under the leadership of Gov. Jose “Jing” Gambito, has officially partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to bring high-speed internet to the province’s underserved areas.
This P10 million connectivity breakthrough is a key component of the National Broadband Plan (NBP), a nationwide initiative designed to improve internet speeds and expand coverage in regions currently neglected by commercial providers.
Gambito confirmed that the provincial government is working hand-in-hand with DICT officials to establish a critical “middle-mile” connectivity link from the NGCP substation in the village (Barangay) Busilac.
“This connection aims to strengthen internet service at the Provincial Capitol and enable a wider distribution of connectivity to government offices,” Gambito emphasized.
This initiative establishes Nueva Vizcaya as the digital regional backbone for the NBP rollout in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), according to Sherlyn Fernandez, head of the Provincial Information and Technology Division (PITD).
Following the successful deployment in Santiago City, the province is now the government’s next strategic priority for high-speed infrastructure.
This proposed middle-mile link is a massive upgrade—jumping from the current 800 megabits per second (Mbps) to a staggering 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) bandwidth.
It is a massive increase that will empower provincial offices and extend high-speed access across the region, ensuring every remote village is connected.
As a committed advocate for economic growth, the governor has allocated P8 million to P10 million for this digital infrastructure.
Despite the previous technical interferences, the DICT is now set to conduct a site survey to finalize all requirements.
This digital breakthrough will be more beneficial to all, specifically ensuring the fastest delivery services for our local entrepreneurs and consumers. ‘This is a turning point for our province,’ said Gov. Gambito.
‘With 10 Gbps connectivity, we are not just speeding up data; we are accelerating the movement of goods, healthcare, and education—improving the lives of every Nueva Vizcayano'” he added.
